We now have our first large blob of frog spawn in the pond in Ballindean after a couple of days of seeing little frog heads from a distance bobbing about but then disappearing as soon as we approached.

Despite the cold and snow showers, on the 20th March I have one blackbird sitting tight on eggs and have a foraging hedgehog hoovering up the spilt seeds from the bird feeders and the cats dinner! Spring has most definitely sprung.

Hi Gordon, I saw several House Martins flying north this afternoon (2 April). They were over Rossie Estate . I had a good view through the binoculars of the white flash on the back of one of them.

I noticed another flowering along the road verge on the hill, the Red Campion is already coming into flower there.

Two Sundays ago we had another example of the arrival of spring. We spent the day in the garden, and had two Chiffchaffs calling close by us, for much of the time. This Sunday we had Willow Warblers calling. These two warblers are difficult to identify but the songs are easy to recognise. You can see images of and hear the Chiffchaff call here and the Willow Warbler here .

Good luck
