Late this afternoon wedge of 27whooper swans flew over the garden. As I have not seen any all winter, I was pleased to see so many.

And a Barn Owl was spotted last night (20th March - 10.15 pm) along the Church Road between Church and Abernyte junction. It took off from a fence post and headed off towards the village.

Not a sighting and not heard, but a sign that Spring Migrants are winging their way north! We stopped off at Vane Farm this afternoon and saw that a Chiff-chaff had been heard there today (27th March). That means that they could be in Abernyte before long - so listen out for these and Willow warblers in the next week or so.

Barry has heard a Chiff-chaff calling at Fingask today! At least one migrant is here and looking for some nice Spring weather!

How many Swallows do you need to declare summer? According to the Swallow rhyme you need more than one, will two do? maybe. Well, how about three then? We saw three flying around at Megginch at the garden opening this afternoon, as well as actually watching a Chiffchaff singing from a bush. Looks like summer is almost here.

This must count as summer now, this afternoon I heard my first Willow Warbler in the garden. It was a little bit faint, but it was blowing half a gale at the time!
Other interesting bird news is that Tree Sparrow has been reported from Kinnaird in the third week of March, and about the same time I had a report of then in Flawcraig. Last week I spotted at least half a dozen in Pitroddie. So could we be witnessing an expansion in range for them?
