A female or juvenile Kestrel has been around the village this afternoon, centred on the Kinnaird road junction. She? Is not disturbed by traffic as when she was sitting on the road signs at the junction she just ignored passing traffic. Look up for her perched with a good view of what is going on around. She was last seen just as it was getting dark heading north up the village.
The male has brick red upperparts and a bluish grey head, rump and upper tail, a female or juvenile are sandy or Rufus above, with little or no grey.

A Kestrel was hunting around the village this morning. The bird is very distinctive because it is in moult and the flight feathers on the wing show a clear gap about the mid point on each side.

Keep your eyes open.

I spotted a kestrel this afternoon (Aug 7th) flying around the wood to the north of Whitehills. The weather was not ideal for a kestrel with light rain. I was alerted to its presence by its call, so keep your ears open.
