School Nature Observations for 2010

Surrounding Fields

  • There are lots of acorns lying on the ground
  • We can hear lots of leaves rustling on the trees
  • There are lots of ‘itchy bombs’ – rosehips on the bushes
  • We saw snails climbing up the wall beside our sunflower border
  • The tomato plants are dying  - the leaves are going yellow
  • Our Willow Dome is still growing well -  lots of new branches
  • The bird bath if full of all the rain water
  • Our two sunflower plants are still very small but have got a flower on them now
  •  There are lots of cobwebs hanging between the bushes 
  • The leaves are falling off all the trees
  • The leaves are lots of nice colours – orange, red, yellow & brown
  • There are lots of berries on our Rowan tree for the birds
  • The blossom on our Cherry Blossom tree has all blown off
  • We don’t like all the mushrooms that have grown
  • The plants don’t look happy any more – lots are going brown 
  • There are no raspberries left on our plants
  • The slugs have been eating the tomatoes that have dropped off the plants
  • We saw an empty snail shell
  • The ‘Jellyfish plant’ is dying – (Clematis Plant, yellow flowers look like white jellyfish when seed heads)
  • There are lots of snails – some very big and some small
  • The fields have all been combined
  • There are lots of hay bales for the farmer to collect
  • There is a big digger in the field
  • We can see lots of seagulls
  • The dung pile has got bigger
  • There are a lot more cows in the field down by the Milton

  • Bushes are bigger and greener
  • Willow dome has lots of shoots
  • Apple Trees are blossoming
  • There is lots of  Galium Aparine (sticky willow) on our fence
  • Turf pile has sprouted lots of grass
  • We can hear tractors
  • Buttercups are growing under the willow dome
  • Daffodils stems/leaves are dying
  • Nettles are around the fence edge
  • Wall plants(Snow in summer ) is really nice
  • We can smell bonfire smoke
  • Midges are out
  • There are lots more insects
  • The birds sound really happy
  • It is not so windy
  • Our grass is covered in daisies

  • There is less mud
  • The views from our bench are really nice
  • We can smell the cut grass
  • There are butterflies and white cabbage butterflies around
  • The raspberry plants have grown over the fence from quiet area
  • There are lots of House Martins
  • The sheep have moved to another field – we can hear them
  • We can hear and see lots of birds – blackbirds, pigeons & crows
  • The trees all have lots of leaves on them
  • The daffodils round the field edge have died

  • Our  tubs of potatoes are really high now
  • There are lots of raspberries starting to grow on our plants
  • We saw bees and wasps around the flowers
  • There are ants around our raised flower beds
  • It feels sunny and warm
  • There are snails crawling around our garden
  • Our strawberry plan doesn’t look dead any more – it has little strawberries on it
  • Everything is growing after the rain and sun

  • There are chicken coops in the field behind our football pitch
  • We can hear the sheep, they have moved to a higher field – there are cows in the field where the sheep were
  • We can see a tractor cutting silage
  • All the trees have more leaves on them
  • The grass is really green now
  • We can hear seagulls – they are following the tractor
  • There are lots of crows in the field going up the church road
  • The sky is a really nice light blue colour with lots of streaky clouds
